Good Ol' Mom and Pop

Darrell Petska

Inveterate travelers now,
yet returning on a whim
to creak the loose stair,
clink the cupboard’s dish.

It’s no longer what they say,
but what they don’t,
their silence eloquent as stars,
breezy as summer leaves.

They’ve lined my fingers,
filled my body with time.
Everywhere they’re not,
I feel them hovering there.
