We're not currently looking for new work

Soor Ploom Press is all about short pieces of writing that leave a lasting impression. We like writing which is fun, playful, sweet, savoury, sharp, strong, sour… you get the idea!

'The best way to start a Monday'

We’re not quite ready to re-open submissions for the Weekly Ploom, our digital newsletter sharing creative work from Scotland and beyond.

If you’d like to prepare for a future submission window, you can get a feel for the Press by buying one of our printed anthologies, but I’d strongly recommend you subscribe to the Weekly Ploom to gain a proper idea of what you’re getting yourself in for (plus, it’s nice).

If you have something you think we’d like, here are our usual submission guidelines:

  • up to four poems (max. 14 lines each) previously unpublished
  • up to two pieces of fiction or creative nonfiction (max. 500 words) previously unpublished
  • include the name you’d like to be published under and a very brief bio (can you do it in two sentences or less?)
  • it would be lovely to have an audio clip of you reciting your work to share alongside the text, if chosen (but this is not compulsory—otherwise it’ll be my dulcet tones and Weegie accent). You can always send this later, once you know if your piece has been accepted or not.
We’d love to be able to pay contributors but unfortunately, it’s just not possible for us at the moment. If you would like to donate the right to publish your piece in our edited collection (in print and digital formats), we will give 10% of all proceeds to the Shannon Trust, a charity which ‘inspires and trains prisoners who can read to teach prisoners who can’t, so they’re better set up for a positive future.’ All contributors will receive a copy of the anthology, too.

In the meantime, thank you for your interest in our press! We’re excited to get publishing and look forward to hearing from you in the future.
