Fairytale Girls
Catriona MacLeod
Fairytale girls want to chill out,
say a prayer / make a wish,
phone a friend
without a prince lurking behind a well,
asking for her hand, or foot,
or detailing another conditional clause in his coronation contract.
Fairytale girls want to break patterns,
sing unenchanted / sleep in peace,
vanquish in their own time.
The twist in the tale will be a collective roar.
Maybe you should hire a knight to guard
your door – they aren’t so busy these days.
